Supersize Me!

The movie Super Size me is a documentary showing how bad fast food can be for people. It stars Morgan (a 35 year old in shape man) who consumes only McDonald's for a month straight. He has receives advice from various pediatricians and nutritionist's before the start of his project and they also gather data on his health. Morgan provides much information on the harm that fast food is doing not only to American people, but the whole world. Before he starts he sets ground rules about his plight; he must eat three square meals a day, only things that can be sold over the counter of McDonald's is acceptable, if they ask him to super size he must say yes and finally he must walk the amount of an average American each day. After the first week we see him vomit only once on camera but there could have been more times. He ends up gaining ten pounds the first week and continues his mission. After three weeks he sees his doctors and they highly advise him to stop eating fast food because it is killing his liver. By this time he has already gained 20 pounds and he is sluggish, tired and almost addicted to the food. He continues to explain that American's spend large sums of money each year on thousands of different, easier ways to lose weight when what they should really do is eat less fast food and exercise more. After disregarding the advice from his doctors, Morgan continues and eventually finishes his thirty straight days of eating McDonald's. He resulted in gaining over twenty-five pounds, doubling his risk of heart attack and heart disease, he felt sluggish and lazy a lot and his sex life went down the drain. His final statement is that the American people should stand up to Fast food and seek an alternative, unless they want to live a highly unhealthy lifestyle.

Living on Minimum Wage

The minimum wage in Massachusetts is $7.50 currently up from around $6.50. Not bad considering other states are still below the six dollar mark. If i were to work forty hours a week at my states minimum wage I would be grossing $300. Now $300 is grossing, this excludes all the taxes that i\I would have to pay, but I will still use the gross amount. If i were to work forty hours a week for the whole month I would gross $1,200. The cheapest house I could locate in my town goes for around $145,000, not too bad for a two bedroom one bath. So if I were to put down $14,500 as a down payment and have an interest rate of 30 years fixed at 6.5% a monthly payment would be around $825. So from my monthly $1,200 i'm down to $375. This leaves me with a little less then $100 dollars a week for expenses such as food, gas, laundry, bills, car insurance and much more. I don't think with only $100 dollars a week I would be able to afford all the expenses that I would need to survive. Car insurance alone would run me more then $25 dollars, food at least $25, gas another $25 and this leaves $25 dollars for my bills. Unless I wanted to live in a dark, cold house with no utilities this would not be a possibility for me. Id either need to find a cheaper house or apartment, work more hours or obviously get a higher paying job.

A Fenway student is the Fun way!

A college students Life - The Area of Fenway can be said to stretch from Huntington Avenue all the way to Fenway Park. In this area there are many great restaurants, stores, schools and even places to just hang out, after all it is Boston, and there is always something to do here.
Now, first of all we have the most important subject, food. There are a wide variety of restaurants and just places to eat all throughout the Fenway area. My favorite places to eat include the great Mexican eatery, Qdoba, and the highly expensive Cheesecake factory. Qdoba i have never heard of until i actually decide to try it one night with friends and it is a great place for a burrito, a taco or just some signature tortilla chips with salsa. The Cheesecake Factory on the other hand is a wonderful restaurant to sit and eat, though not with too many people especially if your paying! This is also a great place for dessert, cheesecake obviously is the most popular. If your not a cheesecake person there are many ice cream stores around one of which include Cold Stone Creamery. Theres always a place for any type of person to eat in this area of Boston.
What brings many students to Boston is in fact school. Boston is known as the city of education for all the great schools that are here, especially in the Fenway zone. Some of these great schools include of course Wentworth Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Wheelock, MCPHS, Simmons, and Emmanuel. Any person could find a great major they wanted from one of these select schools.
What is there to do in the Fenway area? It's more like what isn't there to do. Probably the best thing to do in the Fenway area is to grab some Red Sox tickets and catch a game. Theres nothing more exciting then watching the MLB's team with the best record play some ball. If your not into sports you could grab the T and head over to Fanueil hall for some great food, shopping and street performances. If your short on cash, you could grab a friend or a someone special and take a nice walk through the park. Stop and feed some ducks enjoy the sights its always a great time.
To sum it up, being a student at a fenway school is great. Theres always places to eat, people to meat, things to do and a great education to be had. I find Boston to be a great place to live and even work when I get to be older.

Blog Links

Dicegay, Carl Pavanos Blog
I Chose this blog because it is very entertaining, obviously it's not really Carl Pavano but it is still funny. On a side note, the last blog post included a question from my brother, Paul from Boston, I thought that was hilarious that his question actually got answered on a blog we both read.

The Best Page in the Universe
One word, Maddox, absolutely hilarious.

Curt Schilling's Blog

A great pitcher for the Red Sox, I like to read what he has to say about the season his personal life and what he can do to help the team.

About ME

Hi everyone, my name is DJ and I attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in the great city of Boston Massachusetts. I'm eighteen years of age but will shortly be turning nineteen on September the twenty-third. I am into various activities including (but not limited to) hanging with friends / my girlfriend, watching sports, playing sports, playing games on the computer, eating food, video games and most of all (not really) enhancing my education in the classroom. I have held a few jobs over the years, my longest job and which I am still employed at is that of Dunkin' Donuts. I've been working there for almost three years and I been making them dollar bills. Currently I am pumped because football season started and I love to watch the Patriots own their whole conference. I play fantasy football too and I am in two leagues thats just how much I love it. I cant wait for the Bruins to start up either, my friend always buys season tickets and we hit up 5 - 10 games a season at home which is always a great time. So enough about the sports, time for food. My favorite food you might ask, easily a chili cheese dog from Dave's Dogs. Now, Dave's Dogs you might ask, a nice little hot dog stand on Route 27 in Hanson, Massachusetts (Pictured Above). I've lived at his stand for the past three years and even have a nice teeshirt (priced at $12 includes a free dog of your choice). Well that about sums up the high points in my life, interesting huh? More updates to come!
